I had the privilege of listening to Charlotte Moss speak about where she gets her inspiration behind all her brilliant work.  Charlotte focused her lecture on how influential fashion icons have been by teaching her to be daring and limitless with the “rules” of decorating.  

Photography is  a passion and hobby of Charlotte’s. Capturing a moment and place allow her to go back and reflect on how she felt at that particular time and what she wanted to take from that particular vision.  She showed us several images she has taken through the years that have contributed to her personal garden, design jobs, and future endeavors.

From jewelry designers to furniture designers, she covered all her favorite icons……

Alexander McQueen

 The late Alexander McQueen stepped out side the box and used razor clam shells to create this stunning number.  Practical, no. Creative, yes!   It proves that Alexander McQueen looked around his surroundings and found beauty in the most unusual materials. 

Fulco Di Verdura

Fulco Di Verdura would see cherries and think rubies!   Incorporating luscious colors into unique masterpieces has kept Verdura in a league of its own.

Diana Vreeland

Charlotte spoke of Diana’s spirit, her way to inspire her staff with her fierceness. Diana was confident and didn’t mind taking risks to get what needed to be done, done! 

Gloria Vanderbilt

Gloria has the ability to take a simple fabric (like gingham) and make it look luxurious and fabulous.  Her collages were work of arts, and she was the first to license her own lines of china and glassware.

CoCo Chanel

Coco used knits to create luxury clothing before it was ever used….this changed fashion forever!

Ann Bonfoey Taylor

Ann Taylor (no correlation with the store) taught pilots how to fly planes before they headed off to war.  Why is Charlotte so intrigued by her?  Ann Taylor had one of the largest, most exquisite couture collection privately owned.  When she passed, her collection was showcased in the Phoenix Museum.  People who have style, have it….and Ann sure did have it!

There were several others such as Bill Blass, Phillipe Starcz, Evangeline Bruce, etc. that have helped inspire Charlotte and taught her it’s ok to do something different and daring…..we actually prefer it!
